Family holidays are at our core – the type conjured up by nostalgic reminiscing. Multi-generational gatherings with children playing barefoot in a cottage garden while grown-up laughter rings out from rattan seating.
The kind of vacation where days out are full of sand and sea, seeking mythical figures in a land of legends and romping home for a meal all together.
The sort of holiday where a day-in might involve a bake-in with the littlies while teenagers go exploring on their bikes, and a sprinkling of adults get lost in easy chairs with a book.
Tom’s Cottage is absolutely the place for all of the above, but there’s also more to us than meets the eye…
Creative breaks across the arts – whether a performing group of musicians visiting local festivals, a tutored gathering of creative writers, reading groups, artists’ sketchbooks or photographers needing fresh subject material - Tom’s Cottage is an ideal base.
Our tranquil setting provides a distraction-free ambiance and complete immersion in nature. An array of alternative scenery is within easy striking distance – from the coast to moorland, from wooded valleys to formal gardens.
Natural history – away from highly populated hotspots and within a richly diverse corner of Cornwall, Tom’s Cottage is perfectly situated for wildlife enthusiasts.
Ornithologists and naturalists alike can have a field day at Tom’s Cottage. From the wildlife rich surroundings of the garden to purposeful visits along rivers or seashore, moorland and woods; a wonderfully diverse array of birdlife awaits.
From winter starling murmurations on Davidstow Moor to the Middle Amble Marsh Reserve and Walmsley Sanctuary beyond (about 5 miles from Tom’s Cottage) – every season brings its own delights. More details at Cornwall Birds (CBWPS).
Cornish culture and heritage – we relish everything Kernow (Cornwall) here at Tom’s Cottage. From the dialect, with its grammatical construction borne out of the ancient Cornish language; to Cornish wrestling and gig rowing, the massed voice of a male choir to welcoming spring with ancient customs – Cornwall is made by her Celtic people…
The people that have touched the landscape: created ancient monuments, fishing villages and mines; nurtured old field patterns, woodland and open spaces – all while remaining fiercely independent yet uniting for a common cause. Completed by a Cornish sense of humour.

A marriage made in heaven – we have two wedding venues close-by, both offering country weddings in different styles. Each offers some accommodation, including camping. Tom’s Cottage is a 10-minute walk from the closest venue and a 5-minute taxi ride from the other, and would make the perfect base for extended family or a group of guests with a hankering for their own cottage retreat.
