Tom’s Cottage is just the trick for a half term treat – magical for a family break. Full of Cornish charm yet deceptively spacious indoors, with an abundance of local activities.
There’s a log burner to cosy-up by in the evenings and roomy gardens for little legs to scamper (be they of the canine variety or young humans!) 5 minutes from the beach with a host of adventures nearby, days out can be as varied as anyone could wish.
Here’s our refreshingly (non-spooky) recommendations: -
- Cycle The Camel Trail
- Discover the legends of King Arthur with a visit to Tintagel Castle, (English Heritage) The Vale of Avalon and St Nectan’s Glen
- Walk the Port Isaac area of The South West Coast Path (we’re a Way Maker and listed with National Trails)
- Play on an almost empty beach, and eat a pasty picnic
- Eat fish and chips overlooking Port Isaac harbour, after following the Treasure Trail around the village (copy in Tom’s Cottage bookshelf)
- Ride the ferry from Rock to Padstow and visit the National Lobster Hatchery
- Stroll round Cardinham Woods or find a local circular walk on the iWalk Cornwall app
- Surf at Polzeath, or kayak at Port Gaverne with Cornwall Rock Tors
- Take in a movie (or live streaming of a performance) at The Regal Cinema Wadebridge; with or without fresh popcorn!
If a ‘darker’ excursion is your thing, here’s our local picks: -
- The Witchcraft Museum, Boscastle (booking recommended)
- The Charlotte Dymond Memorial at Roughtor Ford
- A tour of Bodmin Jail plus experiencing their Dark Wall
The Cornish Bird is a local heritage wiz and has produced some fascinating articles concerning our area’s haunting history – the stories are tempting enough to visit Port Quin, St Teath and Davidstow Moor
